Article Abstract:

The "Will I See my Tutor" website, apparently intended to enable students make informed choices for entry into universities in 2007 is causing alarm by providing incorrect data on departments and advising students to avoid them. The erroneous staff-to-student ratios used as the basis of evaluating departments has resulted in defaming named departments without any evidence, and legal advice is being sought by the universities to counter the allegations.

University grandee reaches for his lawyer

Article Abstract:

Sir Victor Blank, leading member of Oxford University' s governing council, has brought in lawyers to demand an apology from Roger Ainsworth, master of St Catherine's College. After receiving a letter from Carter-Ruck, libel specialists, Roger Ainsworth issued an apology to Sir Blank for comments made in a letter to the conference of colleges.

Johnson promises sector a freer rein

Article Abstract:

Boris Johnson, Shadow Higher Education Minister, has promised universities more autonomy under a Conservative Government. Mr Johnson said the party is in favour of expanding student numbers.
