Board won't seek name change for AVA

Article Abstract:

The American Vocational Assn's (AVA) Board of Directors has decided not to change the association's name based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Name. A survey of the association's members by the task force showed that 58 percent did not favor a name change. Other recommendations from the Task Force on the Middle School were also approved by the Board. The proposals included the need for AVA to contact educational reform groups so that common interests in middle school educational programs may be identified.

Making JTPA programs work in rural areas

Article Abstract:

The Job Training Partnership Act of 1982 (JTPA) programs were created to provide job training in urban areas. However, in rural areas where JTPA students experience difficulty in getting to vocational centers, the JTPA programs were transferred in centralized locations accessible to students. The Golden Triangle Vocational Technical Center in East Mississippi, for instance, has successfully implemented its JTPA programs through this approach.
