China gets tough with low-quality institutions

Article Abstract:

China's education ministry has issued "yellow card" warnings to 60 colleges and universities this year. Institutions that receive such a warning must increase spending on teaching facilities and restrict enrolment. The aim of the card system in China is to help promote reform and improvement in the country's universities and colleges.

Chinese bid to get overseas fee boost

Article Abstract:

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) has signed a contract with 53 Chinese universities and colleges to receive overseas students sponsored by foreign governments. Overseas students pay more than double the fees of domestic students.

Ghost professors haunt Peking

Article Abstract:

Peking University has been accused of listing 'foreign professors' on its faculty who have little or nothing to do with the university. Qiu Chengtong, professor of mathematics at Harvard University, made the accusation in July.
