Creative computing

Article Abstract:

Computer studies can reveal much about human creativity. Margaret Boden has studied concepts such as meaning and sought to apply these to creativity and artificial intelligence. She originally wanted to be a psychiatrist and carried out research into causes of behavior linked to intentions and those which are linked to physical and chemical factors. The increased flexibility of children as they mature sheds light on creativity. This is similar to computers being unable to access higher levels.

The fat controllers

Article Abstract:

Many illnesses in western societies are due to people eating too much fat and not enough fruit and vegetables. Health messagges do not alter behavior, so changing the food that people tend to eat could make them healthier. Critics argue that this can have unpredictable results, such as increased consumption of sugar by people who use artificial sweeteners. There is also insufficient knowledge as to the effects of changing the composition of food.

Toyland takes on real life

Article Abstract:

Children are finding it more difficult to determine the difference between artificially created people in computer games and real life. Studies of children at play have ascertained that a lot of children are of the opinion that virtual people are nearly real or alive. The concept of a machine has changed in the past ten years, so that children now think of life in terms of psychology, biochemistry and mechanics.
