He's had 68,889 namechecks..

Article Abstract:

Salvador Moncada's scientific research has been cited in the work of other scientists 68,889 times over the past 20 years, according to citation specialist Thomson ISL, and he is regarded as a legend in the scientific community. Despite this, Moncada, who works at University College London, is unlikely to be recognised outside of the academic community because of his refusal to make television appearances and his reluctance to offer his opinion in newspapers.

...think scientists who talk to the public deserve praise, not derision

Article Abstract:

Scientists who engage with the general public in an attempt to get them to understand at least a part of their work are often criticised by their colleagues and accused of dumbing down their work. Instead of this, scientists who attempt to explain issues to the public should be praised and encouraged as it is only by engaging with the public that future generations of scientists can be inspired.
