Article Abstract:

In order to determine consumers' opinions of the coverage of the Gulf War by television, a prestigious project at the Institute of Communications Studies, Leeds University, obtained viewers' opinions. Respondents were recruited by age, sex and class and the first revelation was an overwhelming support for the war. Saddam Hussein took the most blame, and many were sympathetic to the Iraqi people. Generally the survey was pleased with television coverage and appreciated the fact that reporters were actually on site. Women objected less to the showing of horror and grief less than men.
