Demand for degrees outstrips supply

Article Abstract:

World demand for higher education is expanding more rapidly than supply, and universities from the US, Australia, Canada, Britain, Germany and France are seeking recruits. South East Asia has been affected by economic problems, but there are opportunities in the Middle East, Mexico, Brazil, India and China. Canada and Australia have developed marketing strategies as relatively new entrants, while Germany and France are the most active competitors of non-English speaking areas.

Election may halt top-ups

Article Abstract:

Thousands of Australia's prospective university students will not know until late-October 2004 what course fees they will face in January 2005 as the decision by Prime Minister John Howard to call a general election on 09 October 2004 threw the Government's higher education reform plans into doubt. The Labor Party has stated that if it wins the election it will reverse the current Conservative Government's plans to introduce top-up fees.
