Dose of realism, injection of hope

Article Abstract:

The senior lecturer in the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield discusses how a spring cleaning exercise in which he was sorting through some old documents sparked in him the belief that over the past 27 years the curriculum that is taught to nurse in the United Kingdom has lost touch with the reality of what it is to be a nurse. In response to this belief, he set about establishing Penfield Virtual Hospital, a virtual hospital ward in which student nurses can interact with virtual patients and assess a variety of manufactured case histories. In establishing the hospital the realisation was reached that no matter what is taught, it has to reflect the context in which the nurses actually operate.

We love a drop of sherry, but can't take the strong stuff

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the role of the Church of England and the decline of formal religion and religious attendance in the United Kingdom. It is contended that while formal religion is on the decline in the UK, as a whole the British are neither very religious nor very secular and want to have a sense of the spiritual but do not want religious professionals telling them what to think.
