Article Abstract:

The vice chancellor of Exeter University, England, Geoffrey Holland, was a consultant to Agenor, an agency against which there have been corruption allegations. Holland had a contract the chair the development and policy of the Leonardo program which Agenor ran for the European Commission. Agenor is owned by stockholders from the European Union, and includes major French companies on its board of managers. There have been criticisms of lack of information given to the European parliament on the Leonardo program.

Vice-chancellor's move to cut 90 jobs ruled illegal

Article Abstract:

The Privy Council has ruled that Hull University's moves to make up to 90 staff redundant were illegal, finding that the governing council of the university had wrongly delegated powers to the vice-chancellor to deal with staff cuts. The Privy Council asked the university to reconsider the remit of the vice-chancellor with regard to staff redundancies and to decide how best to maintain a proper quorum at meetings of the council while ensuring transparency.

Article Abstract:

A number of higher education establishments in the United Kingdom are looking to replace their vice-chancellors in 2001. The qualities for such a post have changed over the years and managerial and leadership skills are important.
