Female staff face abuse

Article Abstract:

Research sponsored by the Nuffield Foundation contends that university managers are failing in their duty to protect female academics against intimidation and abuse from students. The research, which is to be presented at the Women in Higher Education conference in week commencing 10 May 2004, claims that female academics have been subject to heckling, stalking and physical attacks by students and that in every case inappropriate and often sexist management responses were given.

White staff are more likely to scoop PRP

Article Abstract:

White academics in the United Kingdom are up to eight times more likely that non-white academics to receive discretionary performance-related pay (PRP) increases, according to research conducted by the Association of University Teachers. The research that ethnic minority staff had an equal or better chance of getting PRP than their white colleagues at just four institutions in the UK.

Staff exposed to parent rage

Article Abstract:

University staff face growing aggression from parents demanding information on their children's progress to make sure they are getting value for money. A senior administrator told the Higher Education Academy's annual conference that the hostile behaviour is leaving admissions tutors, lecturers and support staff vulnerable.
