First steps along the road to space's final frontiers

Article Abstract:

The idea of antimatter-powered astrocruisers is no longer confined to science-fiction, scientists at the Cern laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, having made antimatter for the first time in 1997. The antimatter created was anti-hydrogen and it only lasted for a millionth of a millionth of a second. Cern scientist Professor Frank Close explains that conditions in which scientists can isolate, study and even store antimatter for any length of time have yet to be designed. However anti-electrons, or positrons, already have applications in everyday life, such as in testing aircraft turbines.
