Reforming the Sunshine Act

Article Abstract:

The US Administrative Conference reported that the Sunshine Act needed refinement in order to meet the Act's goal of opening agency actions to the public. A fundamental change would be to establish a pilot program for up to seven years, allowing private agency meetings pursuant the publication of a detailed meeting summary within one week. In order to avoid open meetings, agency decisionmaking was reported to occur through indirect communications such as small, private meetings or through writings.

Flickering brilliance

Article Abstract:

A video of the 1994 MediaActive conference was made as a research project for the Learning Methods Unit and is now available as a CD-Rom MediaActive product. The video approach is now considered inappropriate, however, with camera angles and lighting overlooked. Cross referencing would also in future be paid more attention. The quality of the live conference need not be altered to meet technical requirements. Ways of improving multimedia production of a live conference are assessed.
