Friendship with a Russian smile

Article Abstract:

The Russian Peoples' Friendship University was founded in 1960 as the Patrice Lumumba University, by Nikita Kruschev to promote internationalism. However many overseas links ended with the collapse of the Communist regime five years ago. The Kremlin renamed the university and began a recruitment drive, and it now has 110 different nationalities studying each year, including 200 students from 35 different ethnic groups. It changed to the Anglo-American system of bachelor and master degrees and has a staff/student ratio of 1:4.
