Article Abstract:

Universities must provide the right type of facilities to encourage students to use computers, such as 24 hour access suites. Some universities have introduced additional payments to computer literate students at their employment centres. Mature students may need to be helped to become familiar with computer terminology. A variety of computers and software should be made available in order the students become expert at using a number of applications. The use of a computer can help the students in their research, to compose their essays and to keep contact with friends and tutors.

Past lives on floppy disk

Article Abstract:

By distributing lecture notes to history students at Cork University, time has been freed during the lecture hour for analysis rather than presentation of lecture notes. The use of computers within the history department has grown and assessments of the students' computing capabilities are paramount during the early part of the course. It is suggested that computer literate humanities graduates are more employable.
