Global e-university yet to get off the ground

Article Abstract:

An examination of the teething problems which have faced U21global (Singapore), which in the almost 18 months since the October 2001 announcement of it as the world's premier online university has yet to embark on its first courses. U21global was formed as a joint venture between Thomson Corp (Canada) and Universitas 21, a consortium of 18 universities in eight countries and was expected to have launched its operations by end-2001.

China asks for Australian help to educate one million citizens

Article Abstract:

Brendan Nelson, Federal Education Minister for Australia, has claimed that, on a recent visit to Beijing, Zhou Ji, China's Education Minister, expressed an interest in Australia helping educate one million of China's citizens. This year, 72,000 Chinese students were enrolled on courses in the Australian education market, with about 30,000 Chinese students studying Australian programmes in China.

Global academic community rallies around relief effort

Article Abstract:

Academics from around the world have offered their help for the relief effort for the Indian Ocean tsunami. Institutions in the US and Australia have offered expert aid while universities in Sri Lanka and Indonesia are struggling on.
