Halfway house to entry rejig?

Article Abstract:

A new two-step university admissions system could be introduced in the UK as a transitional phase between the current system, which relies on predicted exam results, and a full-blown post-qualifications system, according to Steven Schwartz, chair of the Government's "Admissions to Higher Education Report". Schwartz notes that while a two-stage system, which would still rely on predicted exam results but which would not make offers of places until grades are actually known, would not be ideal but could be used as a transitional stage.

Article Abstract:

Brewster Kahle, e-pioneer, is attempting to encourage libraries to expand access to unpublished academic material by using the power of the Internet. Kahle, who has already attempted to turn the Internet into a library through the formation in 1996 of the Internet Archive, a database containing more text than all the works in the US Library of Congress, is now holding talks with members of the Digital Preservation Coalition in an attempt to develop a way of preserving material that gets published online but often nowhere else.
