Graduates join student doctors revolution

Article Abstract:

Australian universities have introduced new doctor training schemes into around 50% of their medical schools. The new programmes admits graduates in preference to school leavers. Flinders University allows graduate students the chance to work in the community, with a general practitioner, for their third year. The graduate intake into Sydney University will undertake a four year medical training course. Some observers fear school leavers will choose alternative careers or other medical schools rather than wait for three years, before gaining admittance into the graduate scheme.

Plea to ban poaching of students

Article Abstract:

An Australian government review member is concerned about poaching of fee-paying students by some universities. Students have reportedly been offered a bonus to change universities and prizes if they recruit more students to a university. Over 100,000 students at Australian universities pay fees and universities pay commission to agents who attract students. Marketing of universities should be in line with goals to maintain academic standards.
