High court urged to quash Ofsted report

Article Abstract:

A mature student intends to ask the High Court in the United Kingdom to tear up a report made by Ofsted into his former college, Newcastle-Under-Lyme College, claiming that some of the reports findings are "perverse and irrational" and that Ofsted inspectors failed to comply with their published guidelines. Newcastle-Under-Lyme was given a clean bill of health by the inspectors for the quality of its management, however, the student claims that the inspectors ignored a dossier of evidence that he had collected to back up his claims of mismanagement at the institution.

QAA links quality faults to cash flow

Article Abstract:

The Quality Assurance Agency, quality watchdog, is due to publish its "Learning from Higher Education in Further Education Colleges in England" report into the quality of degree courses offered by further education colleges. The report identifies overworked staff, high student dropout rates and badly stocked libraries as just some of the problems blighting the further education sector, dealing a serious blow to the government's plans to expand higher education largely through courses offered in further education institutions.

College may close after QAA and Ofsted criticism

Article Abstract:

The People's College, Nottingham, established in 1846 by philanthropists to provide education for working-class people, looks likely to close following the release of damning reports by Ofsted, the Adult Learning Inspectorate and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). The QAA report states that it has "no confidence" in the academic standards of some of the courses offered by the college and that it has "serious doubts about the integrity of the assessment procedure" at the college.
