'His style might be better suited to Wall Street'

Article Abstract:

An analysis of Steven Schwartz and his achievements as vice-chancellor of Brunel University in the light of his decision to quit after only three and a half years in the job. Schwartz has overseen major change at the university and has been involved to some extent in the shaping of national education policy, however he has also presided over a bitter industrial dispute and is accused by detractors of being a publicity-hungry self-promoter.

London Met drops union recognition

Article Abstract:

London Metropolitan University, which had a voluntary agreement with the former lecturers' union Natfhe, is refusing to extend the same to the University and College Union (UCU) in May 2007, insisting that the UCU must formally apply for recognition.
