Improving the judicial system: unlocking the jury box

Article Abstract:

Reforms to the judicial system are imperative to reestablishing the faith of the citizenry in trials by jury. The state courts are implementing measures such as non-discrimination on the basis of profession or making allowances for non-unanimous verdicts to encourage the participation of citizens.

The jury trial needs reform; changing the rules

Article Abstract:

Street protests against the verdicts on several celebrated trials in the 1990s indicate that the jury system needs to be reformed. The verdicts, which were either acquittal or partial acquittal, were biased because of skewed, ill-selected juries that did not represent a diverse group of citizens.

The jury on trial: another controversial case

Article Abstract:

Many people have a low regard for the American judicial system because of the unpredictability of juries. Juries can also become confused in complex cases. The elimination of juries and their replacement by judges is advocated by some.
