January start lures new type of entrant

Article Abstract:

Thousands of students are starting their higher education courses in January, thereby avoiding the stress and rush which is associated with traditional autumn enrolment. The majority of these students are mature, part-time or some other form of "non-traditional" student, but the University of Staffordhire, which is promoting a number of January-start courses, believes that starting in January is an option that will appeal to all types of students.

Bodleian may not survive cut intact

Article Abstract:

The Bodleian library, one of the world's most famous libraries, may be broken up as part of plans by Oxford University to overhaul its library services. The majority of the library's 6 million books are expected to be transferred to new locations around Oxford as part of the plans, which envision the reduction of the number of libraries run by the central university from 40 to 15 over the next decade.

Oxford's new governance plan shifts power balance

Article Abstract:

Oxford University has dropped plans to establish an external body of representatives to oversee its operations and make its corporate decisions. New plans propose the creation of a 15-member council, of which eight would be external representatives, to deal with funding and other corporate issues.
