Land where women can really clean up

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the growth of democracy in Iran and how democracy and Islam co-exist. It is argued that, while the US is campaigning about Iraq possibly being the Middle East's first functioning democracy, in actuality its more liberal neighbour, Iran, could evolve into a functioning democracy with democratic structures operating alongside and with Islamic structures.

Geoff Pearson, lecturer in law, will be in Germany on 20 June looking for any trouble accompanying the England vs Sweden game in Cologne. The trip is a continuation of his participant observation of fans and policing at football matches.

Hugo Chavez is hoping to win a second term as president of Venezuela, but opinion is split among experts over his intentions. In part, the elections will be a referendum on the social reforms and redistribution of power of Chavez.
