Leicester to host business 'Utopia'

Article Abstract:

Many business schools are sacrificing their academic independence in their attempts to pursue research agendas driven by private industry, states Gibson Burrell, the new head of the University of Leicester's management centre. Burrell has radical plans for the rediscovery of a Utopian spirit in management, claiming that "the context for management research in the UK has become more Americanised" and that it is essential that as academics they are independent, standing outside a topic and able to address it without fear of whether the implications of their conclusions will be relevant to a particular client group.
