Magic markers

Article Abstract:

Computer assisted marking of tests is seen as a fair and efficient means of testing factual knowledge and such tests allow for a considerable saving in staff time. Essays are needed for creative work and to ensure that students can write down their thoughts. An initial investment of time may be needed for staff to formulate questions but this is less important in the second year when questions can be recycled. Questions may be initially easy, with more difficult topics tackled later.

A woman of the world

Article Abstract:

Rosalyn Higgins has been appointed a judge at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, Netherlands. She argues that the court is respected because it does not take sides, and that international law is becoming more important as litigation has increased. She is a strong supporter of human rights, arguing that people want to have freedom of speech and religion wherever they are. This is true for Latin America and Africa as well as developed countries.
