Meet targets, win bonus

Article Abstract:

Further education colleges could see they way in which they are rewarded become related to the number of their students progressing to higher education if performance targets proposed by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) are implemented. Under the proposals, which the LSC wants introduced in order to determine the level of funding that colleges receive from 2004-2005, institutions that work in partnership with universities or deliver higher education may be expected to show improvement in the rate of student progression into higher education, with the measure of this success being written into three-year plans which will form a funding contract between the LSC and colleges.

Boswell firmly behind FE boom

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom government is committed to long term expansion of further education, according to Tim Boswell, the minister responsible for further and higher education. Although funding for further education has been increased by almost 400 million pounds sterling, there are fears of parallel developments following those in universities. However, the government aims to set up a national network for vocational qualifications, which is likely to mean strengthening the role of further education.
