Millennium magic Blunkett style?

Article Abstract:

The Dept. for Education and Employment's response to the Kennedy report published in the week of Feb. 23, 1998, has raised hopes of a redistribution of cash from universities to further education colleges following the Government's Comprehensive Spending Review in summer 1998. Many of the funding issues raised in the Dearing report, including those relating to research funding, will also be considered as part of the spending review. Meanwhile the Government's green paper on lifelong learning fails to provide the blueprint for building a learning society that had been hoped for.

Please sir, why should anyone want to teach?

Article Abstract:

Not enough people want to become teachers, partly because of insufficient salaries and the perceived low status of teachers. Men are also reluctant to teach young children because of parents' fears over paedophilia. The government has called for access to higher education to be widened and for greater resources to be put into improving schools, but the appropriate teachers may not be found to ensure the desired system works.
