Multiple literacies, curriculum, and instruction in early childhood and elementary school

Article Abstract:

The implications of using a multiple literacies perspective in the construction and implementation of literacy curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in early childhood and elementary classroom are described. It is argued that rather than shifting the focus of the teaching and learning of literacy from an autonomous model to include a multiple literacies perspective, it is authentic to construct spaces for learning that prepare students for equitable participation in a global communication and information economy.

Article Abstract:

The term 'multiple literacies', which refers to multiple ways to look at the world, impact how students make connections to and understand their world. Examining literate lives as student engage with multiple literacies

Article Abstract:

Research suggests that digital literacies situated within collaborative learning contexts have certain attributes that distinguish them from traditional school-based literacy. It is believed that in such a scenario, students are able to contribute together and separately to enhance explorations of their worlds with new and dynamic genres and as means for exchange of ideas and problem solving.
