Muslims fear severing ties may fuel ill will

Article Abstract:

Muslim academics and education leaders have called on universities in the UK to maintain their links with Islamic institutions following the decision by Lampeter University to stop validating courses provided by the European Institute of Human Sciences (EIHS), an Islamic college that trains imams. It is feared that some universities may, as a result of the prevailing political climate, sever their ties in order to avoid negative publicity but, it is contended, such moves would simply play into the hands of extremists by pushing institutions such as EIHS out of the mainstream education system.

Tyne is ripe to hatch some high aspirations

Article Abstract:

An analysis of a partnership between Newcastle University and All Saints School in the West Denton district of Newcastle, UK, which aims to raise the educational aspirations of students deprived areas. David Scott, principal of All Saints, believes that there is tremendous potential for the partnership, helping children from am area where there is not a tradition of going to university to see the wider options that are open to them.
