Oxford admits lack of minorities at top

Article Abstract:

Oxford University needs to implement a programme of "positive action" in order to attract more applications from ethnic minority candidates for posts in academic and senior administration positions, according to a report produced following research by the university's equal opportunity officers. The research found that black and ethnic minority staff were underrepresented at the senior administrative grades, however, the university's equal opportunities initiative is being hampered by the poor quality of data regarding the ethnic profile of its staff.

Union forces action on low pay as more college staff head for schools

Article Abstract:

Union leaders, politicians and further education heads have all expressed their concern over figures that reveal that the numbers of further education lecturers who have left their jobs to take up positions as school teachers has more than doubled to 540 in 2002, vs 210 in 2000. According to Barry Lovejoy, head of colleges for lecturers' union Natfhe, the figures demonstrate that despite recent advances on lecturer pay, there is still a long way to go to bring further education pay and conditions up to the level of schools.
