NUS bid to halt reform

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom National Union of Students (NUS) is using various methods to respond to a threat from government reforms, including a bid for charitable status. The union also claims that the government is contravening European free speech and free association agreements, and is pressing for a longer consultation time to discuss the proposals. Projects carried out by the NUS which are under threat include aid to poorer students, and community projects to help people in the locality of the university or college to which a union branch is attached.
