Article Abstract:

A new form of climate science should be developed to focus on the world's changing climate. Research should be carried out to focus on the economic and social consequences of climate change, with a multidisciplinary research group set up with funding from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). NERC has approved in principle a climate research unit incorporating scientists from the Economic and Social Research Council, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and NERC. NERC will receive an extra 40 million pounds sterling from the CSR by 2002.
