Article Abstract:

Sue Richards is a successful British management consultant who is a firm supporter of new public management, and as head of the Economic and Social Research Council project, seeks to reorganise the public sector. The theory advocates staff empowerment, the thorough use of mission statements and the out-sourcing of non-essential functions wherever possible. The project will identify areas of public sector work which can be managed by external contractors.

Article Abstract:

Ulrich Beck, a German sociologist, has built a reputation amongst English speaking social scientists on the strength of his book Die Risikogesellschaft, coining the 'risk society'. He has also contributed to Institute of Public Policy Research seminars on risk and has accepted a research professorship at the University College of Wales. He believes that insurance systems should encompass risk and that legal norms must change to apportion responsibility.

Doctor of corporate America; Rosabeth Moss Kanter, the guru of business school theorists

Article Abstract:

Rosabeth Moss Kanter studied at Harvard University, and is now a professor in a New England college. She has a reputation for espousing change as being good for business, and her books analyse corporate problems. Her view is that companies with good human-resource policies perform better than those without. Professor Kanter has been voted one of the US's most powerful women.
