Political circus fails to attract the big crowds

Article Abstract:

This year's general election drew a record low turnout of 59 percent, prompting a flurry of new polling research. An Economic and Social Research Council project at Essex submits that anger in the electorate against parties not resolving main issues of the day, poor public perception of candidates, lack of bond to political parties and lack of local campaigning are root causes. The article concludes that the low voting turnout is a logical outgrowth of voter marginalizing begun by Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.

Middle-class posturing or a victorious fight for real changes?

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to the"Warwick Spring", a sit-in organised by a group of students at Warwick University in 1970 in protest at the refusal of the university's authorities to allow them their own social building, are examined in an attempt to decide whether the protest was a victorious fight for real changes or whether it was just middle class posturing.
