Politician warns Welsh will flock to leave unless alliance shifts

Article Abstract:

Janet Ryder, education spokesman for political party Plaid Cymru, has warned that a radical overhaul of the University of Wales is needed if it is not to lose some of its biggest member institutions. Ryder noted that there is a "significant risk, that Aberystwyth, Bangor and Swansea universities will leave the federal institution unless it modernised its operations.

Cardiff's exit tests federal unity..

Article Abstract:

The University of Wales' future is in doubt following Cardiff University's decision to leave the federal institution and strike out on its own. There are fears that other member universities of the University of Wales may also have to leave the organisation if they want to gain their own degree-awarding powers.
