Programmed for partnership

Article Abstract:

IBM has engaged inmore than 750 local partnerships with schools and other companies over the lastyears. Its programs are generally made to improve K to 12 education, while others are aimed at generating improvements in particular schools and districtsand in vocational education as well. Some of these programs include the IBM Grants for Technology in Education, the IBM California Education Partnership and the IBM K-12 Matching Grants Program. In the area of vocational education, IBM's partnerships with vocational schools provide financial aid, teacher training programs and technical advice on computers and software.

Going to bat for businesses at Indiana's Ivy Tech

Article Abstract:

Baseball bats and golf clubs manufacturer Hillerich and Bradsby Co had asked Indiana Vocational Technical College's Business and Industry Training Division to handle a customized training program for the firm's lineworkers. The program was intended to train the lineworkers in statistical process control. The project reaped enormous success six months afterwards and resulted in the plant's high quality ratings. The success was attributed to the college's efforts towards quality activites, customer proximity and flexibility.

Help for Florida's students and marine industry

Article Abstract:

Florida's Seminole Community College has a marine mechanics technology program that uses its modern laboratories to provide career training for future marine mechanics and to conduct refresher courses for the employees of several powerboat engine manifacturers. The program allows students to experience hands-on repairing andmaintaining engines from companies like Mercury Marine, Yamaha, Tohatsu, Nissanand Force. The college also holds factory training programs for company dealersand technicians.
