QAA: accreditation 'risky'

Article Abstract:

The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) has called into question the right of hundreds of specialist and small colleges across the world to offer British degrees. Peter Williams, chief executive of the QAA, has warned that the wide-spread practice of "accreditation" - whereby UK universities allow educational institutions that do not have their own degree-awarding powers to award their degrees under a financial arrangement - was an "historical anomaly" and that the practice risked damaging Britain's reputation for excellence by compromising quality.

Seats of learning that deserve high standing

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the Labour Party's plans to "revisit" the requirements that institutions must meet in order to earn the title university. It is argued that, contrary to what those protesting about any changes argue, amending the rules that govern which institutions can call themselves an university will not necessarily dilute the university brand, rather it will add modernity and strength to the brand.
