Article Abstract:

The Internet has profound implications for the higher education library community in that the print environment is being replaced by an electronic one. Electronic publication not only poses problems for academic librarians seeking to impose bibliographic control, but raises difficult issues associated with copyright and fair dealing. Digital publication is likely to result in the role of the librarian in academic and special libraries, which are primarily concerned with linking users to the information they require, evolving into that of 'information consultant.'

...think legal training has to change

Article Abstract:

The head of the Bar Council's education and training department argues that, in the light of forecasts that students could be leaving university in 2010 with debts of over UKPd33,000, the way legal training is currently undertaken needs to change. The reason this change is needed is that for professions such as the law, the length of the course is longer than that of other degrees, meaning that students would face an even greater level of debt and could, therefore, be put off entirely from entering the legal profession.

Why I ... think the web will alter human evolution

Article Abstract:

The internet may turn out to be a not-so-positive influence on our evolution as a species. A revolutionary communication system, a development which mirrors the first systems of human communication, the internet, however, contains harmful memes, phenomena that become embedded in the culture. We should take steps to insure that the internet does not become too autonomous and powerful.
