Rector quites in degree scandal

Article Abstract:

Carlos Dalfaro, rector of the National University of Formosa, has resigned following the discovery that the university had awarded hundreds of degrees to students in Spain through an unauthorised distance learning programme. Dalfaro, as well as Hector Quijano, dean of the university's faculty of administration, resigned prior to a meeting of the university's governing body at which they were due to be removed from their posts.

Sit-ins delay rector vote

Article Abstract:

The University of Buenos Aires is close to breaking point after five attempts to elect a new rector have failed due to student sit-ins. The university has operated without a rector since May and Anibal Franco, vice-rector, has been able to authorise only 150 of the 2000 university regularions which require approval.
