Reflections of bestiality

Article Abstract:

The archives of the Soviet Union should soon become available in the wake of the collapse of east European communism and they should reveal more about the deeds of the governments of Germany, Japan and Italy as well as the Soviet Union itself. It has often been said that there is little difference between totalitarian systems and that Nazism was not unique, and the expected revelations will enable this statement to be verified or disproved by examination of how Nazism developed. A more comprehensive understanding of fascism will be welcomed by historians.

Reflections in self-control

Article Abstract:

Engineering students, at a Scottish university, were encouraged to undertake self assessment exercises which would lead to them taking part in discussions on their grades, with the teaching staff. At first a number of students were asked to keep a log of their work which many found very useful. The students were then divided into groups of four and were asked to make a plan for project. They reviewed their planning process with other students and their teachers. In the past some observers have questioned the validity of self assessment for students.

The views from the platform

Article Abstract:

It is suggested that although students are demonstrating skills which are attractive to employers, there are too few students. The skills in question include willingness to develop their skills, ability to work in a team, and desire for further learning and development. Universities and colleges should increase relationships with businesses to help students relate their learning to the workplace. Four different visions of graduates of the future are given.
