Reggio Emilia as cultural activity theory in practice

Article Abstract:

The Italian city Reggio Emilia is famous for its municipal funded program for children aged 0 to 6 years which has redefined the meaning of primary education. Reggio Emilia's success is due to an interpretation of teachers as researchers, curriculum as long-term projects, identifying the role of environment and treating parents as partners in the educational enterprise.

Including the child with special needs: Learning from Reggio Emilia

Article Abstract:

The main principles within Reggio Emilia's education system that promote attitudes and beliefs regarding inclusion of children with special needs are discussed. The Reggio Emilia system nourishes the child with special needs, reduces fear, and builds confidence, and its relevance to the North American system of education is highlighted.

The construction site project: Transforming early childhood teacher practice

Article Abstract:

A construction site project that enhanced undergraduate and postgraduate participants understanding of the effects of collaboration, conversation and documentation is described. These experiences helped participants to see the concepts as important elements in reflective teacher practice.
