Rise in degrees as things hot up

Article Abstract:

An examination of the growing study areas of tourism, transport and travel. In the United Kingdom 1,111 higher education courses for entry in 2003 have been identified with the word tourism in their title, but despite this and the general importance of tourism to the UK's economy, generating almost 5% of the country's GDP, university travel and tourism departments state that a lack of government funding is limit the scope of their research.

Article Abstract:

Female participation in higher education grew dramatically after 1970 due, in part, to the attractiveness of the new universities to women. The universities offered broader curricula, especially in arts, and had no formal tradition of gender segregation or discrimination against female students. Author charts the ascent of women in higher education.

The medical establishment is slow to accept changes wrought by midwives in academe, working to give women a better birth experience. Midwifery students are increasingly challenging the medical establishment and often midwife colleagues, midwifery managers and mentors.
