The past in their hands

Article Abstract:

Museums in the United Kingdom, which have vast archives of medieval artifacts, must do more to convert strong public interest in the country's past, as demonstrated by the number of people who visit medieval exhibits, into positive support for the study of the discipline at university level. Museums are in an unique position to make medieval history openly accessible and enjoyable and should, therefore, do more to engage the public with narratives relating to these archives, thereby generating enthusiasm that could be converted into new initiatives in the field of medieval studies.

Get your ankles out for the lads

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to the debate surrounding the use of pictures of naked or partially clothed female models in newspapers are examined. While The Sun newspaper is credited with inventing the concept of the Page 3 girl in the United Kingdom, it is argued that tactic of using pictures of glamourous women to sell more copies is nothing new, the only novel thing about The Sun's approach is the greater frankness of its topless pictures and the fact that the pictures have become an institution in the paper.
