Search for a pharmacy that works
Article Abstract:
Computer-assisted learning for pharmacy students helps overcome difficulties posed by an increased teaching load in the UK where resource bases have been shrinking. Laboratory classes are expensive and may involve ethical problems for students opposed to dealing with animal tissue. Laboratories can, however, provide active learning and prepare students for a subsequent career in industry and research. Computer-assisted learning is appropriate for certain types of learning such as preparation for laboratory work.

Information culture in search of a landslide
Article Abstract:
UK academic libraries are exploring opportunities offered by the information superhighway through JANET, the UK academic network. Computer systems allow costs to be itemised and a move by scholarly publications to electronic media would be welcomed by libraries. Stocktaking and mis-shelving are two problems which computers can help solve. Training will be important for librarians, and traditional skills should not be lost as new skills are developed.

Cunning humans, selfless machines: using neural networks to mimic the way the brain works brings us no closer to understanding consciousness
Article Abstract:
Neural network technology could be used to mimic the human mind which in turn could explain the mystery of human consciousness. The field has been developed largely by researchers using symbolic AI techniques, but there are doubnts about whether the development of software algorithms based on rule following knowledge represesntation schemes can produce artificially intelligent machines.
