Speaking the language: Tulsa Junior College responds to workforce needs

Article Abstract:

The programs adopted by Tulsa JuniorCollege (TJC) in Oklahoma to respond to changing workforce needs were described. Tulsa has 350 companies affiliated with the aviation industry. The Tulsa Junior College thus joined the Tulsa Aviation Education Alliance, a cooperative endeavor of aviation professionals and Tulsa schools. TJC's International Language Center teaches English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian,Greek, Latin, Japanese, Portuguese, Russia, Spanish and American sign language.TJC administrators are also part of the Tulsa Literacy Coalition, which provides literacy training to Tulsa employees.

VICA goes to college

Article Abstract:

The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America's vocational programs offer invaluable benefits to all post secondary institutions and community colleges by way of professional development and increased employment opportunities for student members. VICA's training develop the student's leadership abilities and make students more reliant. These are important qualities necessary within the work setting. The programs also make collaboration between schools, industries and the community possible, thus increasing the student's chances for immediate employment.

Consortium seeks to shape new workforce

Article Abstract:

The National Consortium on Health Science and Technology Education, founded in 1991, promotes the interests of health care professionals by responding to national-level decisions pertaining to this field. The consortium tries to contain the splitting of the health care industry into various specialized areas. It also works toward creating partnership among health care workers, supporting research studies on health care providers, devising a more suitable curriculum and establishing an effective information system on health care.
