The cosmic godfather

Article Abstract:

Scientist-author Arthur C. Clarke is generally accepted as being the father of satellite communications after an article he wrote in 1945 proposed a concept of geostationary objects encircling the earth and capable of acting as radio transmitters. He dismisses any claims that he should be compared to scientists such as Luis Alvarez and J.B.S. Haldane, and suggests that he is a space propagandist. Clarke's main aim is to be scientifically accurate in all his writings. His current preoccupation is to settle the cold fusion debate that has been raging since 1989.

Symbolic victory

Article Abstract:

Until recently it was assumed that the ancient Maya rulers of Central America had no true writing, and certainly no phonetic writing system. However since the early 1970s scholars have deciphered the esoteric writing of the ancient Maya rulers. Mayanists are now learning to use their ancestral writing system again.
