The pharaohs' digital afterlife

Article Abstract:

A lecturer and curator at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology details the Digital Egypt for Universities project, which was put together by the Petrie Museum in partnership with University College London's Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis. The Digital Egypt for Universities project, which went live in July 2003 providing users with a wealth of information about ancient Egypt, was developed in response to a call from the UK's Joint Information Systems Committee in May 1999 to create online, digital resources and an infrastructure to which all teachers and students would have free access.

Frontiers fade when connection is made

Article Abstract:

Academics and teachers will soon be able to access a much greater volume of information as a result of the creation of an European Union Knowledge Exchange network. The new network is the result of alliances forged by the Joint Information Systems Committee in the UK, the German Research Foundation, Denmark's Electronic Research Library and the SURF Foundation in the Netherlands, which link research institutions and universities across Europe.
