The gunboat diplomat who struck a minefield

Article Abstract:

An examination of the foreign policy of Lord Palmerston, a British prime minister who died in 1865, and whether or not his legacy of imperialism makes him an appropriate person for George W. Bush to take as a personal hero. It is argued that while Americans may admire the way in which Palmerston's foreign policy led to British mastery of the seas, they should also heed the fact that this quickly turned into global imperialism, with the British government annexing territory and establishing colonies around the world.

...believe that British academics have failed the general public

Article Abstract:

Academics have failed to educate the British public about the extent to which UK foreign policy actually runs counter to its declared aims of promoting peace, human rights and overseas development. It is argued that research shows the UK to be a systematic violator of international law, to be a key ally of oppressive regimes and a condoner of human rights abuses, but that academics have not done enough to publicise these issues.

Admit it, George Dubya's medicine is not all bad

Article Abstract:

It is argued that President George W. Bush's policies for the spreading of democracy through regions such as the Middle East are based on sound academic arguments and should not be simply dismissed out of hand. It is noted, however, that the US has to follow though on what it starts and commit to supporting its foreign policy in the long term if it wants its plans to succeed.
