The shooting range under the Alps

Article Abstract:

Research is being undertaken at the Gran Sasso laboratory, near Rome, Italy and the Cern laboratories, near Geneva, Switzerland, supported by France, Belgium, Germany and Spain, with the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare in Italy contributing two-thirds of the cost. The physics experiments hope to establish the existence of tau neutrinos and how neutrinos can be transformed into other types. It is hoped information from the experiments will be available in 2005. The UK was not in favour of the experiments as they are already supporting similar work in other laboratories.

Give our museums back

Article Abstract:

Museums should inform, educate and provoke curiosity according to Francesco Antinucci, who argues that they no longer fulfill this function. He cites the British Museum's Egyptian Room as a good example of what a museum display should be like. The display is impressive, while modern displays may bore children and other visitors despite usage of new technology to preserve artefacts and a drive toward authenticity. Architects and curators of museums have too much influence and there should be more sensitivity toward the needs of the public, he argues.
