Thinking of investing in biotech? Put your money on the 3.30 at Chepstow instead

Article Abstract:

London Stock Exchange listed biotechnology firms have fallen in value by 55% since May 1996. The development of a new drug may cost 400 million pounds sterling. Some companies are very successful, such as Amgen which has made two drugs valued a total of $2 billion. Many biotechnology firms have been quoted on the stock exchange as a method of raising funds to pay for research projects. Biotechnology companies are a high risk investment. The value of their shares rises quickly when there is good news about a drug but can then fall rapidly if it is not followed by successful clinical trials.

Wet stamping of microscale periodic precipitation patterns

Article Abstract:

An experimental method that allows the generation of highly regular, microscopic periodic precipitation (PP) patterns of arbitrary geometries is developed. Generic scaling laws are established that related the morphologies and topographies of the PP patterns to the geometrical parameters of the system.
