To the barricades--it's time for a lesson in politics

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the way in which academics in France have protested against cuts made to the educational system by appealing to the national interest. This appeal to the national interest, which has seen leading figures in laboratories and research groups resigning in their thousands, is believed to be one of the reasons behind the French voters' recent rejection of the coalition government of Jacques Chirac. It is suggested that academics in the UK could learn from their French counterparts.
